Blue Lagoon and the South Coast

Your journey continues Eastwards, beyond the lava fields, to reach the Thingvellir National Park, which is both the place where the first Parliament of Iceland was located and the place of the divergent boundary between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. A few short walks will allow you to absorb yourself into the landscape.

The next stage of our trip takes us into the valley close to the Mount Hekla, known for its numerous geothermal phenomena, the best known of them being that of Geysir, which gave its name to the actual worldwidely known phenomenon.

The most active is Strokkur, whose column of boiling water may spring out up to 30 meters high, at a frequency of 5 minutes. From Geysir, a short route leads us to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, flowing from 32 metres high.

And as this was not enough, we will conclude our day with a walk on the Kerid volcano, which is the home place of a splendid lake with turquoise waters.

On the way, as the view is breahtaking, we frequently stop in order to benefit from the panoramic view points over the Eyjafjallajokull volcano and its glacier. Previously, here existed a lake but the 2010 eruption impressively changed the landscape. Shortly thereafter, we reach the splendid valley of Thorsmork, surrounded by glaciers and abrupt mountains where, for the rest of the day, your guide will reveal to you canyons, waterfalls and other secret places, on foot or by 4x4 vehicles.

In the evening, returned to Hotel Ranga, you can enjoy the delicious cuisine and an outdoor bath, in peace and tranquility, from where you can notice, if you are fortunate, the northern lights during the long winter nights (September - March / April).

Afterwards, going on an off-road piste, we reach the Myrdalsjökull glacier and wander across its white stretches. Located above the Katla volcano, it offers a spectacular view of the surroundings and of the Solheimajokull glacier. If you want it (Optionally), it is possible to discover other sensational sites by taking a one-hour snowmobile trip or a walking trip on the Solheimajokull glacier, accompanied by a guide.

We leave behind the glacial places to travel off-road across the black sandy beaches and the cliff of Dyrholaey, where a large colony of puffins nests. From the cliff, the view is magnificent over the unusually shaped lava needles of Reynisdrangar and over the Myrdalsjökull, where you have been a bit earlier. It is a totally different world...

Thereafter, we go Westwards to arrive at your hotel in Reykjavík or at the airport, if you leave in the evening.
